Blue Shweshwe Dresses

Did you know that shweshwe fabric is a popular choice for wedding dresses in Southern Africa? It is used in traditional ceremonies in rural areas and worn by Xhosa, Sotho, Tswana and Pedi peoples of Southern Africa especially during wedding ceremonies as bridal gowns, bridesmaids dresses and often the groom can be seen in a matching outfit!
The wedding party can also be seen in the same fabric and it makes for a beautiful gathering. Instagram has a wealth of gorgeous outfits and here are some of our favourite blue shweshwe dresses. I would love to be attending any and every single one of these events! They look so glorious. Hope you are inspired to make a shweshwe dress.
Do you design with shweshwe?
Are you a designer that works with shweshwe fabric? We would love to hear from you as there are so many people looking for someone to create an outfit for them out of the fabric. Do get in touch so that we can add you to a directory of designers that can be shared.
