FOLKWEAR Japanese Kimono sewing pattern

£23.00

4 in stock

A traditional Japanese kimono sewing pattern.

With many variations on the kimono (in terms of length and width of sleeves), this one is the yukata, an informal, unlined kimono for men and women of all sizes, and is usually made from cotton.

The front and back are cut together and it has no seams at the shoulder. It has narrow panels creating an overlap at the front opening, and a triple folded and reinforced neckband that extends below the waist.

The pattern offers a choice of three sleeve styles- a casual kukata sleeve for men and women and more formal widths for both men and women.

This timeless garment can be worn in various lengths, as a dress, coat, or robe. The pattern includes instructions for shibori dyeing, sashiko embroidery, and for making an informal obi or sash.

The pattern also provides extensive notes on the history of the kimono and fabrics; along with traditional and modern ways to wear this garment.

PATTERN DETAILS:
This is a paper pattern and is sized for men to women up to 6ft tall.

FABRIC SUGGESTIONS:
Light or medium-weight cotton, rayon, or silk. Yukata kimonos are often blue and white, or other colourful prints.
